so it's getting to the point where i have accumulated stuff in my apartment that i don't even know why i have it. so i'm working on getting rid of some stuff i don't need. in the US when people want to do this, they have a garage sale or take stuff to good will. here, those options don't exist. so i've learned the most effective, yet productive (people will actually use the stuff), way to get rid of stuff instead. fill a box of stuff, take it down to the front of my building, and set it next to the garbage containers. then go back up to my apartment on the 19th floor, look down through the window, and see what happens. usually within a few hours, people are going through the stuff and taking things, or, someone will just come and take the entire box. i know they find something to do with it too. i've had times in the past where i left stuff down there, and when i got back up to my apartment and looked down from my window, people were already taking the stuff away.
well, yesterday, i took a box down like this, and i didn't even get to walk over to where the trash containers were. there were people out there, and i heard them saying, "she doesn't want that?" so i told them, yes, i didn't want it. and they asked for it, as i was standing there, right outside the door. so i gave it to the man, and he told me thank you and looked very happy. so i felt happy too, that the stuff would actually be put to use or benefit someone somewhere, and happy that he was happy about it too. so much easier than anything like a garage sale. there is no money to be made, but who cares? it's great to give something to someone who wants it. and i have too much stuff. i am very blessed with a job i like and everything that i need.

That's awesome!! =) That's funny that if you are able to make it to the dumpster you look down from your window to see what happens because it disappears so fast! So either people there are pack rats or we just have too many things. I think a bit of both!

or people want free new stuff? i'm not totally sure if the people who taking it just want more stuff, or if they are super glad to have things they might need/want for free that they might not have otherwise bought. but either way, it's fine with me! =)
