hong kong in 8 hrs

ok, it was more like 10 hours.
we landed around 10 pm and went through immigration and got our luggage.  oh, and we had to do this because of our flight back to shanghai, the best flight option was to have an overnight layover in hong kong.  and the immigration guy stamped my passport on the same page as 5 other stamps, which bothers me, because i have like 40 other pages in my passport after adding extra pages this summer, but of course he had to keep using the same page over and over again.
anyway, we waited in the airport for the hotel shuttle and went to the hotel near the airport.  the bus/shuttle was comfy with awesome headrests (for the 5 minute ride).  once in the hotel, they told us that there were only rooms with king size beds, so all these people were going to have to share beds that don't normally share a bed with anyone.  kind of awkward.  so we requested cots to be added to those rooms, and then they were magically able to make rooms appear that *did* have two beds in them.  so we went to sleep around midnight, and woke up at 6 am to go eat breakfast and go back to the airport.  we checked out and took our luggage to breakfast and there were all these AMAZING things at breakfast.  plain yogurt with fruit, fresh juice, dim sum!, baked beans, waffles, fried rice, eggs...pretty much anything you could think of.  so we have all this amazing food and we sit down to eat, and then the drill sergeant breakfast lady came over and told us to sign these receipts that implied the breakfast was super expensive.  and we said we thought the breakfast was included.  and the lady said, "it's for the record." so we signed it.  and kept eating.  then it turned out the breakfast was NOT included.  which they failed to tell us the previous night.  they just told us where breakfast was.  so we paid 217 hong kong dollars each for breakfast.  that's 30 usd. and some people didn't even eat very much.
and then the immigration guy in the kong kong airport again stamped the exact same page of my passport that now has a total of 8 stamps on it (how is that possible??) even though i tried to entice him by putting my boarding pass in between other pages.  he just turned the page and stamped that same crazy page again!  so strange of them. grrr.
and they also told our group that all of our seats had to be middle seats and we couldn't sit next to each other, after we had lovely previous flights of all sitting together in the back of the airplane.
so i'm drinking a chai latte, one thing i like about hong kong, after my 8 hour impression.  because they don't have chai in china.  chai is good.  also, free internet in the hong kong airport.  good things are good.

also, thai ice tea is REALLY good.
and they don't smoke all over the place in thailand.  also good.
the teachers conference i went to in thailand was really good.  there were some really good things for me personally especially.  you can ask me about it if you want.  it was really really good.
teacher-wise i felt sad that i am the only high school math teacher at my school because other math teachers were saying things they do together with other math teachers to help their students, but i can't do any of those things. =/  but i do get to choose my own curriculum and have a lot of freedom in my job.  so their are good/bad things.
and i will be glad to be home.

  1. $30.00 for breakfast! yikes!! I would have grabbed enough food to eat for lunch and maybe dinner.
