huang shan: the mist

these pictures are going to introduce you to yellow mountain in the mist. pretty awesome. we even hiked in the pouring rain with ponchos. although the mist is the reason we couldn't see anything at all from the top of the high point. but later when the mist began to clear, it was beautiful, as you will see.
here's a view of the trail.
it was often like this in the first half of the second day we were there. we didn't really know where we were walking to, so we just had to keep going and see what happened.

here are some stairs in the mist.
i think these stairs are on part of the way up to the high point.

this was the best view that we had at the top of the high point, in a brief moment when the fog and mist moved slightly.

my friend i think a bit later when the fog had cleared just a bit more.

the cable cars were interesting that day. this is on the way down in the afternoon.
here we can actually see other cable cars, although the one below is just emerging from the fog or something.
on the way up that morning, we could see absolutely nothing outside the cable car but fog. kind of an eerie feeling. if it weren't for the slight swaying of the cable car and the sensation of going up, we wouldn't have really known that we were moving.
